Alright then, first of all you can create a skin testing forum. That way you can make changes to it and I’ll check it to see how you’re doing. Also, have you ever created your own site or have had admin controls before? Otherwise, I’ll need to guide you through most of the features in the admin panel in order to properly teach you how to skin.
Moving on… I find it seriously helpful to start with a banner before I proceed to skin a site. While it’s great if you can manipulate, it’s not necessary (like an artist would create the banner and you would make a skin to match it). But for the purposes of this lesson, I can provide one of my manips for the banner. It’s this one (part of an art trade with someone).
Since this is the preliminary little introduction to skinning, I’m not really going to teach anything. A list of things to expect:

- Basic JavaScript +rules
- Basic CSS
- Links to very helpful pre-made codes (like table posting code, border-around-forum, etc.)
- Things to avoid when skinning
- Extra/custom images (like affie banner, smileys, etc.)
